When Callaway released the Apex Ti Fusion irons last year it was a true industry first. A concept iron, a signal of innovation, and Callaway’s most advanced iron to date with no limitations.
And today Callaway has announced the release of the new Apex Ti Fusion Plated and Apex Ti Fusion 250 irons, an extension of the original Ti Fusion.
Apex Ti Fusion Plated Irons provide all the advanced tech and performance benefits of Apex Ti Fusion in an all-new exclusive chrome plated finish. Callaway’s industry-leading brazed titanium construction capitalizes on the power of a titanium face combined with the exceptional forged feel of steel.
Apex Ti Fusion 250 also features the all-new Chrome plated finish in a larger footprint than Ti Fusion, with a thicker topline, added offset, and extended blade length for a more confidence-inspiring look and greater forgiveness.
These irons also leverage titanium to produce an exceptional combination of power and feel. Let’s dive deep into both of these new Callaway releases.
Apex Ti Fusion Plated
The Apex Ti Fusion Plated is an extension of the Apex Ti Fusion Callaway launched last year with a slightly different look. As a quick refresher, Ti Fusion gave Callaway the opportunity to use titanium face construction unlike anyone else had done in the past.
Titanium has been used in the industry before, but always with tradeoffs like slow faces or lightweight construction that required companies to put and use weight in a kind of a sub-optimal way.
Callaway's Ti Fusion is a proprietary process that brazes these materials together and delivers a stable, strong steel body with a very active and fast titanium face, resulting in great ball speeds, excellent consistency, and consistent spin robustness. Ti Fusion is the complete package in terms of performance, consistency, feel, and distance.
Ti Fusion came out in a darker finish last year and Callaway also wanted to come out with Ti Fusion in chrome plated finish, but there are some challenges between chrome and titanium and Callaway had to solve for that.
The chrome plating process is very difficult to work with titanium as it's a very reactive material. So Callaway spent the better part of the year developing a process that didn't exist before. And now Ti Fusion Plated is available for players who grew up with this traditional chrome plated finish.
Apex Ti Fusion 250
The original Apex Ti Fusion is a players performance iron in the current Callaway architecture of irons.
There were a lot of players who loved Ti Fusion but needed it to be a little more forgiving.
And that's where Apex Ti Fusion 250 comes in to play.
Apex Ti Fusion 250 has all the same technology that exists in the Apex Ti Fusion, but now you have a little longer blade length, a little more topline, and a more forgiving shape that opens up Ti Fusion playability to a much wider range of players and skill levels.
