PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas JingleBAM DAY 4 Golf Giveaway: Fujikura Ventus TR Shaft Review

Fujikura Golf had one hell of a year.  Their shafts were used by 23 PGA Tour champions including Major Championships, international titles, and the Tour Championship.  And Fujikura's new line of Ventus TR shafts were in both the drivers and woods for the top three players in the world.

I was fit multiple times this year for many different drivers this year, and the Fujikura Ventus TR Blue seemed to always be the shaft that was one of the best for me.  I have it in a handful of drivers and woods.  And for JingleBAM DAY 4 one of you will win any Ventus TR shaft you want.  Choose from Blue, Red, or Black, any weight, any flex.  I'll even see what I can do to get it cut and gripped at the length you want with whatever driver you want to use it in.  You can read about the Ventus TR Blue, Red, and Black specs and technology here.

I shared my impressions on the Ventus TR Blue with you this year on twitter and Instagram and will touch on a few aspects again here highlighting what makes it so good for me - and I believe good for a majority of players.  I didn't play the Red or Black so can't talk much about how those actually perform.  But I will distinguish with general profiles on all three shafts in the Ventus TR family to help you decide which might be ideal for you.  And of course like always happy to chat with the winner about what might work best for your swing or particular driver or wood you'd want it for.

Every time I hit the Fujikura Ventus TR Blue shaft in any fitting it felt incredibly powerful and alive.  I'd see some of my best smash factor numbers and distance with TR Blue regardless of the driver head I was testing.  And even more than the standard Ventus Blue, Blue TR was exceptionally stable and consistent for me.

Fujikura added stiffness to the handle and mid-section of the shaft without altering the weight or mid-launch, low spin profile of Blue.  And the tip is still what I'd call a stiff tip. All combined this helps stabilize the shaft on mishits that catch the toe and heel, making this a Ventus Blue that's more playable than ever.  A lot of feel in the hands, a lot of load, a lot of snap at impact through the ball.  And the kind of shaft when paired with the right head that not only lets you, but encourages you to swing as aggressively as you want and rewards you for doing so.  For me it's a perfect combination of feeling activated but also feeling like my entire swing is tracking.

The Ventus TR Red is your higher launching, higher spinning Ventus compared to the TR Blue.  And just like with Blue TR (and Black TR) Fujikura reinforced the handle and mid-section to reduce unwanted twist.  So again here Ventus TR Red uses the same technology as TR Blue (and TR Black) to enhance stability and consistency, but retains the Ventus Red profile and performance characteristics.

Ventus TR Red has a more active tip section which makes it ideal for anyone who doesn't hit up on the ball or has a downward angle of attack at impact.  Also for anyone who releases the club early or maybe has swing speed (and therefore distance) over the years, TR Red can offer an ideal launch and carry for these kinds of players.

You've probably figured out by now the Ventus TR series are all about minimizing the effects of mishits through added stability through transition and at impact.  And the Ventus TR Black is just like the TR Blue and Red in that regard.  But that's probably where the comparison ends.  TR Black is beefy and stout.

Ventus TR Black is the low launch, low spin profile in the family, and both the tip and handle of this shaft are extremely stiff.  TR Black probably demands you have a lot of swing speed in the tank or swing very aggressively to see the intended performance benefits.  For players who can handle this shaft profile, you're likely to see the straightest drives with very little left and right movement and very tight dispersion.

Remember you always have three different ways to win the daily gifts in my giveaway this year.  On twitter just retweet my giveaway announcement and follow all; on Instagram repost, mention in your story, or like, and follow all; and here on my blog leave a comment in the section below in the daily review/giveaway, Jingle Bam, and Letters from Santa articles.

These gifts are great prizes of course, but also some of the best equipment and gear in their class that I played and reviewed this season.  And I hope these mini reviews and recaps give you an idea of why I rate them so highly.

Merry Christmas all!

  2. Pete, you have obviously been talking to Santa! My last driver fitting had the Ventus TR Blue as the hands down winner (the Red and Black hadn't been released yet). I went ahead and bought the driver, but couldn't swing the $$$ for the shaft, so it is absolutely on my Christmas List.

    1. Technically it's not a replacement for standard Ventus, but imo it's noticeable more stable and with tighter dispersion.
