Santa started telling me about his Origin Story tonight and I had no idea just how resolved he is. Also Christmas gifts before there was an actual Christmas sounded pretty atrocious. Santa also was a general apparently. And maybe it's just me but it sure sounds like DreamWorks and Universal Pictures got at least part of their idea for the movie Gladiator based on Santa's personal experience. I'll let him tell you all about it in his letter below.
Right to the point, Santa's a big fan of LA Golf (seems he finds their origin story (if you will) relatable in his own. And of course the LA Golf equipment and putters in particular get him pretty excited. So tonight for DAY 6 of my PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway we're asking you to choose ANY LA Golf putter you want. Head on over to the LA Golf site here and choose any putter model, any finish, RH or LH and our friends at LA Golf will build it just for you.
A few words about the LA Golf putters to follow, but first here's Santa's actual letter to me.
For those of you unfamiliar with the LA GOLF putters it all starts with the construction. More than 400 layers of carbon composite (the same material used in graphite shafts) are milled into the final head shape. And this carbon material allows the head to be extremely lightweight compared to other traditional steels and materials used in designing putters.
And these new Bel-Air (blade model) and Malibu (mallet) putters increased MOI to higher levels than the original. The carbon fiber bodies were designed even lighter at 50 grams. And LA GOLF then used more discretionary tungsten weight positioning in the heel and toe. So the Malibu now has an insanely high 6800 MOI yet it maintains the same overall weight as the original blade (360 grams). Crazy really.
I played the Malibu-X this year (I'll touch on the "X" finish a bit below). And on putts hit more towards the toe and heel balls rolled straight on my intended line with nearly identical distance as perfectly struck putts. It's damn impressive and there's no doubt at all about this putter's stability and larger sweet spot.
Being an all carbon putter the feel at impact is different than a putter made of solid steel. But not in the way I would have expected. I was expecting the carbon head to feel something like plastic, but the Malibu-X instead has a solid and deep feeling at impact. I'd say the Malibu-X feel is very much like steel, it's just a lighter, less dense feeling than steel. And on shorter putts Malibu-X feel is almost indistinguishable from solid steel putters. On longer putts it felt more muted with more click than steel.
The Bel-Air and Malibu incorporate descending loft technology in a 303 SS face (which is basically a face with four descending degrees of loft from top to bottom). DLY corrects for shaft lean variance from address to impact so your ball launch is as consistent as a clean center strike. You get a predictable roll and exceptional distance control no matter where you hit your ball on the face.
If you're wondering yes LA GOLF purchased SIK Golf and this is the same DLT that was used in their putters. And as a quick refresher the putter face has 4 degrees of loft at the top and 1 degree at the bottom. So if you come into the ball with a forward press (which can smother the ball into the turf), DLT has more loft on the top still to roll the ball instead of driving it into the ground. Conversely if you come into the ball with an upward angle, DLT has less loft at the bottom to prevent a bouncy roll and instead keep it smooth like a square delivery.
The Bel-Air and Malibu putters each feature LA GOLF's P-Series and P-Series SoHo anti-vibration shafts respectively. And they have an extremely satisfying feel. When I've been fit for other putters I've reviewed the P-Series and P-Series SoHo have been right at the top for best performing putter shafts. It gives me a strong sense of my hands not only controlling the head and movement of the stroke, but also a feeling like my hands are actually connected to the head.
Maybe that's the putter stability, maybe it's the shaft, maybe this is just a subjective feel or a combination of all. But this heightened sense of connection makes controlling the putter as easy and precise as writing with a pencil or simply throwing a ball with my hand.
Both the Bel-Air and Malibu have three different hosel options, face balanced slant, non balanced slant, and plumbers neck to match up with the kind of stroke and amount of rotation you have. And they also both have the more exotic "X" finish. To me the X finish is soothing, something like a Damascus steel swirl. The standard Bel-Air and Malibu putters use a more understated raw carbon finish.
Remember you always have three different ways to win the daily gifts in my giveaway this year. And if you missed a day don't worry. You can enter ANY of the DAY Giveaways anytime throughout the entire 12 Days of Christmas.

Merry Christmas all! And here's Santa's letter to me again.
Petey, one of these days I’m gonna have tell you my Origin Story. Back in the day before the first Christmas you know what the most popular gift was? Figs. FIGS man! It didn’t even matter the occasion. If something was being celebrated people were giving and getting figs. By the way does your tongue get itchy after eating figs? Why are those even still around?
Anyway, enough was enough and I decided to shake up the gift culture establishment. I had big gifting ideas that put me in hot water. First guy through the wall though, it always gets ugly. I was a 25 Star General back then. Went by the name of Santamus Clausimus. A kind of Persona Non Grata for being the only general to ride a reindeer. Dasher’s natural speed and agility put the other general’s horses to shame. Don’t hate the player hate the game, right? Fortunately the Gladiator games were abolished a few years later. Fast forward to today, and well… Hey, look at us!
It’s one of the reasons I respect LA Golf so much. LA Golf had an idea they believed in and it shook up the putter industry. Remember when the first LA Golf putter game out a few years ago? People heckled, “Carbon composite head materials? LOLOLOL” “DLT Descending Loft Technology? Bwahahahaha!” And guess what? It works. LA Golf carbon putters really do have a supercolossal sweet spot and Sumo Wrestler stability. The DLT face really does correct for shaft lean variance from address to impact for predictable roll and exceptional distance control.
And I have 5 words for all the haters… Reigning United States Open Champion baby! Okay that’s six words but LA Golf gets me excited. Bryson was Top-10 in Putting every single round at Pinehurst. And can you imagine the next level stuff he's going to do off the tee with that new LA Golf driver on the horizon? I know it’s top secret stuff for now. My lips are zipped.
So let’s have someone experience the tech and performance of LA Golf putters for themselves. Let them choose any model LA Golf putter they want. Blade or mallet. Bel-Air or Malibu. Lefty or Righty. Even tell them to choose the “X” models with that exotic finish I they like. And LA Golf will build it up to spec for someone.
Going back to Byson, how intense was that double Fist Pump triple thrust celebration when he sank the final putt? We talk about it a lot up here on The Pole. For some reason though it always leads to pretty fiery debates on who had the better Jump celebration, 2004 Masters Phil or 2024 Trump Rally Elon? But hey it’s not about height, it’s about heart, right?

ReplyDeleteThose are sweet!!
ReplyDeleteSweet
ReplyDeleteBoth models look phenomenal but I would have to opt for the Malibu with a slant neck. Someone is going to win a damn fine flatstick!

ReplyDeleteStuff gettin’ real
ReplyDeleteThat finish is incredible! This may be the best of the 12 days so far!
ReplyDeleteNeed the carbon fiber in my life!!
ReplyDeleteI gotta say Pete, that Malibu X really catches my eye! The tech in these things would be fantastic to put into play, especially the DLT Face, since I usually have to have my putters delofted to accommodate my upward angle at impact. Winning this one would sure beat getting Figs, so thank Santa for the great idea.
