Full Set of THREE (3) Cleveland Golf CBX 4 ZipCore Wedges: 2024 PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway DAY 5

It wasn't that long ago that choosing a new wedge presented golfers with a conundrum of sorts.  Pick an easy to hit forgiving wedge but sacrifice feel and precision.  Or go the traditional blade route for consistency and Tour level performance, but take your bumps and bruises on mishits.

Cleveland Golf however has figured out how to give you the best of both worlds, and so we're giving away a Full Set of THREE (3) new CBX 4 ZipCore wedges:  a 50 Degree Gap wedge, a 54 Degree Sand wedge, and a 58 Degree Lob Wedge in the sultry Tour Satin finish.  KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 are your stock wedge flex steel shafts.  Choose LH or RH.  And these also each come with free Arccos sensors and a free Arccos trial.

As always you can read all the tech specs on the Cleveland Golf website here.  I won't go into that in this review and instead focus on performance I saw hitting these.  I will say in general to begin however that CBX 4 ZipCore wedges have really struck an ideal balance between versatility and forgiveness without sacrificing any of either.

Turf interaction with all three wedges is phenomenal.  Cleveland uses different shaped soles and different face blasts and laser millings for particular lofts that truly deliver maximum and consistent spin in any condition and from any lie.
The CBX 4 ZipCore wedges are the easiest to hit wedges I've ever played from Cleveland, and also pretty darn close in overall performance to their RTX blade model wedges (and that's saying A LOT).

I waited for a rainy day to start testing the new Cleveland CBX 4 ZipCore in wet conditions and performance is above and beyond all expectations.  The HydraZip and UltiZip groove technology are the real deal.  I got absolutely insane spin on full shots.  And I wouldn't be surprised if these are legit the highest spinning wedges for many players.

On pitches and half swings it’s knock down city with CBX 4.  Didn't matter if I was in the fairway or rough.  And even with a lower CG than my RTX 6 ZipCore the CBX 4 are still launching low (and pretty much identical to RTX 6) with what seems to be the same amount of spin and maybe even more.

CBX 4 feel at impact is also pretty much identical to RTX 6, extremely solid and soft feeling.  That’s wild to me as these are a cavity back construction (versus a blade).  And honestly it's  tough to tell the difference in feel between them (though will say RTX 6 feel a tad heavier through my entire swing).

When you set these wedges down at address CBX 4 and RTX 6 look very similar with what seem to be the same topline thinness.  CBX 4 has a slightly larger sole and a bigger hitting area (face), which leads to another outstanding feature.

If the sweet spot on RTX 6 is say nickel size, the sweet spot on CBX 4 is more like a quarter and a half size.  These are incredibly forgiving wedges, and that’s really the biggest difference between RTX 6 and CBX 4 for me.  CBX 4 are so incredibly stable feeling they almost begin to enter a sort of Bang, Bang, Bang automatic realm for any kinds of shots from anywhere on the course.

Just Low toe, high face, other kinds of misses with CBX 4 stay on line and retain distance and spin better than RTX 6.  You can miss with these and still have excellent results.  Again, just extremely stable wedges when you’re off-center with no sacrifice of flight or target control.

Another pleasant surprise is I didn't experience any fliers with these (full disclosure I did at times previous versions of CBX).  So clearly Cleveland did something with the CBX 4 face to remove those hot spots and give you very consistent performance improving that aspect of forgiveness as well.

You only get one distinct sole grind option for the each of CBX 4 gap, sand, and lob wedges, but can tell you their grinds are smart.  The gap wedge uses a V-Grind to help full and square face shots glide through the turf like butter without any digging at all.

The S-Grind as you might expect is S shaped with a little more bounce.  Escaping heavy rough and nasty bunkers has never been easier or more effective.  It's up, out, and bite baby!  And the C-Grind has plenty of heel and toe relief to open it up and execute any touch shot.  I found it even works great from wet, firm sand.

Again, CBX 4 do have slightly wider soles and a bigger face that might not appeal to some players who want the utmost workability or just prefer small blade wedges.  But in terms maximum spin, distance and spin control, and consistency, I found CBX 4 to be every bit as good at RTX 6.  And for many players CBX 4 will be even better because you really don't have to be perfect with these.  You just have to accept congratulations on shots that make you look like you are.
