New 2025 Cobra KING Tec or KING Tour (4-PW) FULL Set of Irons: 024 PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway DAY 3

Over the last three or so years Cobra Golf has advanced the performance and feel of their irons to such a degree that I'd have to put them in any discussion about best irons in a particular category.  Game-Improvement, Players Distance, and Players irons have all made significant strides.

And for my money the new Cobra KING Tec irons and new Cobra KING Tour irons are the best irons Cobra has ever made in those particular categories (players and players distance).  To go even further I'd say KING Tec and KING Tour are the best irons Cobra has ever made.  Period.  And one of you can choose a FULL SET of either the new 2025 KING Tec or new KING Tour irons in DAY 3 of my PGAPappas 12 Days of Christmas Golf Giveaway.

Yes, you read that correctly.  A full set of new 2025 Cobra KING Tec irons (4-PW), any stock shaft, flex, RH or LH available.  Or a full set of Cobra KING Tour irons (4-PW), any stock shaft, flex, RH or LH available.  KING Tour are available in a black finish as well and if that's your jam I'll see what I can do for you.

I'm going to highlight a few key things about both the 2025 KING Tec and KING Tour irons here along with some mini-comparisons between them to help you decide which will be best for you (in all pics with two irons KING Tec on left and KING Tour on right).  And I'll also compare the KING Tec to the previous gen Forged Tec.

Cobra KING Tec Irons

You might recall back in May I told you Cobra's new LIMIT3D irons potentially create an entirely new iron category.  I called them Players Game Improvement irons.  And you know what?  It's safe to say this is a new iron category because the new 2025 KING Tec are even more Players Game Improvement than the LIMIT3D.

These newest Cobra KING Tec irons are more compact with thinner soles and toplines than the Forged Tec.  But they're also somehow more forgiving over a larger area of the face (get to that below in a bit).

And somewhat surprisingly the KING Tec have a more similar overall profile to the KING Tour than the Forged Tec do.  KING Tec retains the same offset as Forged Tec, which is a little more than the KING Tour.  But as mentioned above KING Tec is a cleaner more compact looking iron.

KING Tec are hollow irons like Forged Tec but these new irons approach the solid feel of the KING Tour now.  Cobra's 5 Step Forging Process creates an extremely uniform grain structure and along with enhanced foam microspheres the KING Tec provide outstanding feedback.  Compared to the previous gen Forged Tec these new irons are clearly softer, stronger, and more solid feeling.

One of the interesting things about shape or profile of irons is we usually see more forgiveness in larger irons and less forgiveness in smaller irons.  And the new KING Tec are smaller than the previous Forged Tec as mentioned.  But somehow Cobra is giving us more forgiveness around the face (let's call this a forgiveness zone) in a smaller profile head.

I'd say you have almost a full two-ball size area anywhere out from center where you're getting incredible performance in speed, spin, and distance and control retention on mishits.  KING Tec aren't going to be all over the face forgiveness like the DS Adapt irons.  But there's plenty of room to miss with KING Tec and still have great results.

KING Tec are clearly longer than KING Tour, about 8-10 yards through the bag.  These create more ball speed with my same swing speed.  And you'd expect that being stronger lofted than KING Tour (KING Tec have identical lofts and offset as the old Forged Tec).  What you might not expect however is launch, peak heights, and even descent are nearly identical between KING Tec and KING Tour.  That was a big surprise.  KING Tec are slightly lower in all areas but barely enough to notice.  Cobra did a phenomenal job using tungsten and weighting lower to accomplish this.

And as between the old Forged Tec and the new KING Tec I don't see big differences in distance and accuracy on pure strikes.  However I definitely see more speed and spin retention with KING Tec versus Forged Tec.  Remember above I mentioned about a full two-ball forgiveness zone anywhere out from center?  That's significant forgiveness.  KING Tec retain more ball speed and ideal spin on mishits than KING Tec and that results in better dispersion on mishits both left-right and downrange.

Spin with KING Tec is lower than KING Tour by about 1,000 RPMs but still excellent in a couple of ways.  First in an absolute sense these generate more spin than most hollow irons with stronger lofts on the market.  You're won't be moaning about hitting what appear to be good shots and then not holding greens with KING Tec.  And as mentioned above, spin rates are incredibly consistent on misses as well.  KING Tec also have excellent overall stopping power and even more impressive low miss stopping power.

Dispersion with KING Tec is very comparable to KING Tour left-to-right.  With both irons your miss radius is pretty tight.  The old Forged Tec had great dispersion on misses as well.  But now these KING Tec give you that same tight radius on misses further out from center than the Forged Tec did.  Again, KING Tec are obviously more forgiving irons.  And overall I'd say KING Tec and KING Tour dispersion is more similar than dissimilar.

Cobra KING Tour Irons

KING Tour give me the most controllable distances of any Cobra irons I've ever hit.  And though not as long as KING Tec these are also surprisingly long.  Above all else though KING Tour are irons deliver absolute precision accuracy.  And something about their design, weighing, CG, all of that also gets my swing slotted for great contact swing after swing after swing.

I should mention I'd consider myself an average ball striker.  I don't miss all over the face but I can miss a good ball-size area anywhere up, down, left, or right.  Yes these are irons designed for better players.  Compact, thin toplines and soles. very little offset.  But something about KING Tour, how they're built, weighted, just lets me put consistently good swings on them.  There is a degree of forgiveness with KING Tour you might not expect (I'll touch on below), but mainly I just make good contact with these more often than with other kinds of irons.

KING Tour forgiveness is damn impressive for this kind of compact iron.  I'd say miss a ball up, down, left, or right in any direction (which is not insignificant) and you're still keeping launch and spin really close to ideal sweet spot strikes.  You're also not being punished directionally both left to right and short to long.  No dramatic loss of any kind in fact.  Misses low or thin in particular retain launch and spin very well.  And any distance lost on these kinds of misses isn't losing more than a club, and in reality probably closer to just half a club.  Again, seriously just damn impressive.

Regarding feel (and I kid you not), guaranty there are players out there who say KING Tour are the best feeling irons they've ever played.  And it really always starts with feel.  Drives me nuts when people say feel doesn't matter, but I digress.  The reason KING Tour feel so great is Cobra's 5-Step Forging process.  In a nutshell what this basically does is align grains in these forged heads as close to perfect as you can possibly get.  And that translates to incredibly soft, strong, and resonant feel and sound.

And one last word about launch and spin.  KING Tour are closer in lofts to traditionally lofted irons and spin rates are very high.  Shots into the green land like they're dropped from angels onto a pillow.  My iron swing speed averages around 87-88 mph and KING Tour launch medium-high for me with a very strong flight that seems to get stronger and stronger until they fall from the sky.

And going back to spin on misses?  Because Cobra uses targeted weighting in the toe and heel I'm not getting crazy spin on mishits sending shots way off target.  KING Tour irons are truly exceptional.

Ultimately when choosing between these irons I'd say if more distance and forgiveness is your goal go KING TecIf more spin control and tighter dispersion is your goal (with a tad of extra distance and surprising forgiveness) go KING Tour.  Either way, Cobra will have you hitting a lot of great shots with both irons.

  18. Wow Pete, when you say #JingleBAMBigger you aren't kidding around! These Cobra King irons look incredible, and reading your write up on them has me scratching my head on which I'd choose. I'd normally go right to the Tecs, but then you praise the forgiveness of the Tours, and the lofts are closer to my sweet spot, maybe I could make the leap and go for them.
It would be a fun decision to have to make.

    1. I love the Tour, straight up. With that said as much as I also liked the previous Forged Tec the shape of those didn't quite do enough to pull me from the Tour. These new KING Tec (as you saw in pics) have such a cleaner more compact look (and in many ways closer in appearance to Tour than previous Forged Tec). And then with the distance advantage and forgiveness... might give the Tour a run for its money in terms of which I like more. #ReleaseTheKringle
