USGA Announces USA Walker Cup Team Captains for 2023 and 2025

The USGA has announced that Mike McCoy, of Des Moines, Iowa, will captain the USA Team for the 2023 Walker Cup Match on the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland and Nathan Smith, of Pittsburgh, Pa., will captain the USA Team for the 2025 Walker Cup Match at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.

“Both Mike and Nathan have long, exceptional histories with the USGA and outstanding amateur golf resumes,” said Stu Francis, USGA president. “Given the historic nature of the next two matches being staged at St. Andrews and Cypress Point, we wanted to give both of them the time to enjoy this leadership opportunity and plan their next few years accordingly. 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior Awarded to Eisenhower Golf Course at United States Air Force Academy

The USGA announced on Thursday that the Eisenhower Golf Course at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., will host the 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, becoming the first golf course affiliated with a military academy to host a USGA championship. The Blue Course of the 36-hole facility was originally scheduled to host the 2020 U.S. Girls’ Junior before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it will now host the 74th edition of the championship on July 17-22, 2023.

“There was overwhelming enthusiasm when we announced that we would be bringing a USGA championship to the Air Force Academy, and like so many things impacted by the pandemic, it was incredibly disappointing to have to cancel,” said Tracy Parsons, championship director. “We couldn’t be more excited to have another date set on the calendar and are incredibly appreciative of Eisenhower Golf Course and the Colorado Golf Association for their continued support of the Girls’ Junior.”

USGA Announces Qualifying Sites on Path to 2022 U.S. Senior Open at Saucon Valley Country Club

The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced qualifying sites for the 42nd U.S. Senior Open Championship, to be conducted at Saucon Valley Country Club (Old Course), in Bethlehem, Pa., from June 23-26. Saucon Valley will become the first club to host the U.S. Senior Open three times, having previously been the venue in 1992 and 2000.

Conducted over 18 holes, qualifying will be held at 33 sites across the United States between May 2 and June 1. Online entry applications are available now and will continue through Wednesday, April 27, at 5 p.m. EDT (champ-admin.usga.org).

Mitsubishi Golf Wins Number 535 at The Honda Classic

Mitsubishi picked up its 535th win on all major Tours since 2004 as Sepp Straka won The Honda Classic at the notoriously difficult PGA National Champion Course.

The Champion Course at PGA National was the third most difficult course on Tour during the 2020-21 season, and Straka left no doubt off the tee with a Kai'li 60 White in his driver.  Straka led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (1.261) and Driving Accuracy Percentage (84-percent).

USGA Announces Entry Process, Field Composition and Format for 1st U.S. Adaptive Open

The United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced additional details regarding the U.S. Adaptive Open – a new national championship that will showcase the world’s best golfers with disabilities – including information on the entry process, field composition and competition format.

The Path to The Country Club Begins Today

The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced that online entry applications are available now for the 122nd U.S. Open Championship, to be contested from June 16-19 at The Country Club (Championship Course), in Brookline, Mass.

Thousands of golfers will once again attempt to qualify for the championship through a two-stage process in which eventually 156 players will advance to The Country Club and one will be crowned U.S. Open champion. Non-exempt players will compete in one of 109 local qualifiers hosted throughout the United States (with one in Canada) between April 25 and May 23. Nearly 1,000 players will then compete in final qualifying, scheduled at 11 sites worldwide on May 23 and June 6.

Annika Sorenstam Files Entry to Compete in the 77th U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica

Annika Sorenstam has filed an entry as a fully exempt player for the 77th U.S. Women’s Open Championship Presented by ProMedica, which will be contested June 2-5 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

The three-time champion has competed in 15 U.S. Women’s Opens, most recently at Interlachen Country Club in 2008. She will return to Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, where she successfully defended her 1995 U.S. Women’s Open title with a six-stroke victory in 1996.

USGA Announces 26 Qualifying Sites for the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica

The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced the 26 qualifying sites for the 77th U.S. Women’s Open Championship Presented by ProMedica, which will be contested June 2-5 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

Qualifying will be conducted over 36 holes at locations in 17 U.S. states plus three international sites between April 19-May 16. The championship is open to female professionals and amateurs with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 2.4. Online entry applications open on Wednesday, Feb. 16 and continue through Wednesday, April 6 at 5 p.m. EDT at champs.usga.org.
