First images of the new 2022 Mizuno ST-G driver were seen at The Open Championship today.  Weight track technology has returned, but on closer inspection there are some clear visible differences from the ST200G.  The most notable being a third weight track in the back bottom of the driver.

The shape of the ST-G 220 head appears similar, but refined.  It looks deeper and less rounded than the ST200G, which theoretically could improve stability and manipulate launch easier.

Jim Furyk Wins 41st U.S. Senior Open Championship

After making bogey-double bogey on his second and third holes to lose most of the four-stroke lead he began the day with in the 41st U.S. Senior Open, Jim Furyk got back to what has made him one of the best players of his era and the 2003 U.S. Open champion: consistency.

Furyk, 51, settled down and played 2-under-par golf over the next 11 holes to restore his advantage and went on to capture the championship in his debut. The Jacksonville, Fla., resident who grew up in West Chester, Pa., completed a final round of 1-over-par 71 for a total of 7-under 273, good for a three-stroke victory over two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen and 2003 Masters winner Mike Weir. The victory made Furyk the eighth man to win both the U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open titles, joining a list that includes Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Hale Irwin and Lee Trevino.

Journeyman Richard Bland and Russell Henley are Surprise 36-Hole Leaders in 2021 U.S. Open Championship

Golf Channel put up an intriguing graphic during its Friday telecast of the 121st U.S. Open Championship. When then-50-year-old Phil Mickelson produced his age-defying victory last month in the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course, he was No. 115 in the Official World Golf Ranking. This week, that spot in the world ranking is occupied by 48-year-old journeyman Richard Bland, who just happens to share the midway lead at Torrey Pines.

Karma? Maybe.

Russell Henley Fires a 67 to Hold First-Round Clubhouse Lead in 2021 U.S. Open Championship

As first impressions go, the South Course at Torrey Pines Golf Course didn’t leave a positive one on Russell Henley. A first-round 79 in the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open – which also uses the North Course here – led to a missed cut and the Georgia native opting to omit the late-January event from his annual West Coast PGA Tour itinerary.

“I don't remember [much] besides leaving the course feeling like I just got beat up,” said Henley, a three-time PGA Tour winner.

Bushnell Golf Tour V5 Shift Rangefinder Review - A Worthy Upgrade to the V Series Legacy

I've taken the new Bushnell Golf Tour V5 Shift rangefinder out for testing a handful of times now.  Enough to get a good idea of what it can do and start writing my review.  Yesterday however, I was playing with a good friend and of course he was asking me questions about it.  So I decided to just let him use mine, it would be interesting what he thinks.  I had no idea it would become the intro for this review.

He was impressed, which didn't surprise me.  What did surprise me was just how impressed he was.  A few hours later I had a huge grin on my face when he texted me a pic of his new Tour V5 Shift.  He actually went out and bought his own after our round, I kid you not.

Tour Edge Exotics C721 Irons Review - A Superstar in the Players Distance Category

Players Distance irons became a big story in the equipment industry about five years ago.  The idea being to combine the playability of cavity back irons with the looks of better players irons.  Distance, workability, control, forgiveness, and feel are all part of the equation, but sacrifices are usually made in one area for another.

Well, Tour Edge apparently decided to take a different approach to players distance irons, one that sacrifices nothing.  And their new Exotics C721 irons should be on everyone's shortlist as a candidate for best players distance irons of 2021.

Saso Steals Show With Historic Playoff Win at Olympic

The Olympic Club struck again. Just as in the five U.S. Opens contested on the club’s Lake Course, the first U.S. Women’s Open Championship played over this iconic Bay Area layout wasn’t kind to the favored final-round frontrunner.

Olympic’s list of past victims includes Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Jim Furyk and Payne Stewart, and Lexi Thompson can now be added to the remarkable list of players who have come up short in championship bids here.

Thompson Leads Saso By One Entering Final Round at Olympic

Lexi Thompson has seemingly been playing U.S. Women’s Opens longer than cypress trees have framed the holes at The Olympic Club. At age 26, this is her 15th consecutive appearance since first qualifying in 2007 as a precocious 12-year-old. Yet for all that experience, the Floridian had never owned a share of the lead after any Women’s Open round.

Until now.

Golf is a game obsessed with numbers. Whether it’s the numerals we write on the scorecard or the myriad of statistics produced by sabermetric gurus,  fans and media love to debate figures until our brains go on information overload.

But here are three key numbers to digest from the 76th U.S. Women’s Open Championship that don’t have to do with strokes gained, cost of the rough or greens in regulation. They are: 19-11-17, and they could be quite relatable come Sunday afternoon at The Olympic Club.

17-Year-Old Amateur Megha Ganne, Mel Reid Share First-Round Lead at U.S. Women's Open Championship

What were you doing at age 17? Working a summer job as a caddie, or taking drive-thru orders? Perhaps you were preparing for your driving test or grinding over college-entrance exams.

Megha Ganne is not a typical 17-year-old, as she illustrated in the first round of the 76th U.S. Women’s Open Championship at The Olympic Club. The Holmdel (N.J.) High School junior carded a 4-under-par 67 – one off the 18-hole amateur scoring record – to match English professional Mel Reid on a breezy, overcast Thursday a few hundred yards from the hold a share of the lead after any round of the championship.
